My brother Jordan’s birthday.
Check out an online radio stream that me and some friends are streaming. I am generally broadcasting in the evenings and the weekends.
Summer is finally here and the temperatures are here to match it. I have not been running much as of late due to the heat but I did get out for 3 miles this Saturday before it got to hot. I picked up a great accessory for running and hydrating. I plan on focusing more on long distance riding this summer but keeping myself able to run a 10K so that this fall I can be ready for a 15K or a 10 mile of race.
As I mentioned a few posts back I was going on a vacation to Indianapolis to witness the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. I promised some pictures and those will be posted at a later date. The race itself was excellent with Mercedes Mclaren taking Pole position and finishing the race 1 and 2 followed by Ferrari 3 and 4. The Mclaren team is dominating this years Constructors Championship as well as the Drivers Championship. At the moment a your rookie driver from the UK, Lewis Hamilton, is leading the Drivers Championship over 2 time defending champion Fernando Alonso.
Today I am planning a training ride at Moccasin Bend with a few people. I should be riding about 25 miles total.
Despite numerous delays, foul ups and false promises my new friend and co-worker Chris and I delivered on a volunteer project to provide streaming video of the Red Wolves at the Chattanooga Nature Center. This all came about after a call from another person who works at the Nature Center called looking for information on how they could provide streaming video of the Red Wolves and their puppies similar to the live feed they have at the Tennessee Aquarium for the penguin exhibit.
A long story short the company I work for volunteered to provide the media server portion of this project and 3 weeks ago we began the saga the ended today. The nature center was to provide the video cameras (they already had those), a video device to capture the video from and an encoding server to compress the raw video into a stream suitable for broadcasting to many people. They got all of this up and running the first of the week and it was up to us to finish the rest. We finally got it working today with 5 minutes to spare before the official work day ended.
Yes, this was very last minute and looks very unprofessional but it did get done and will be much smoother from here on in. If you would like to check out my handiwork take a look. During the day is the best time because the wolves may actually be doing something. At night they are generally sleeping which makes for a pretty boring scene.
It won’t be long and I will be on a vacation and I have to say that I can hardly wait. I will be skipping out of town next Thursday to drive up to Indianapolis, Indiana for the Unites States Grand Prix race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway along with 150,000 other fans of F1 racing. My friend Mike and I went up last year just for the race but this year we are going to experience the whole event, practice, qualification and all the pit stuff. I should be standing very close to a million dollar Ferrari very soon and perhaps getting the autographs of some F1 drivers to boot. I will have lots of pictures to post from my trip.
Went for a 3 mile run and I did not get wet. Hooray!
Went for a run Friday evening and it poured buckets. Got in 3 miles through puddles, water drainage and heavy rain. My running shoes felt like sand bags but I kept up my pace of 10 minutes per mile (that is fast for me) even with the extra water weight.
Tonight I went for a bike ride at Moccasin Bend and as soon as we got to the top of Stringers Ridge we were hit by yet another downpour. This time I was stuck in the back of the getting hit by the rooster tail of the 2 riders ahead of me. I was in the back due to me riding with cyclocross tires which kick off an even larger rooster tail than the road tires of my riding partners.
So it seems if I exercise now it is going to rain. I plan on running tomorrow after work so if it rains then it will be official.
For a long time I have been trying to find a podcast that specializes in weird underground metal, hardcore, doom and noise. I have finally found one that I really enjoy and it’s hosted by a member of one of my favorite bands Neurosis, Scott Kelly. Ironically enough it is also a podcast that spends a considerable amount of time talking about Mixed Martial Arts (MMA – see my earlier post). It’s called Combat Music Radio and it consists of 3 different hosts but my favorite host by far is Scott Kelly. His song selection is exactly what I have been looking for in a podcast. Thanks to him I have been turned onto Monarch a great doom drone band from France.
